To perform conversion between temperature scales, start by selecting the original scale using the “From:” drop-down list and the target scale from the “To:” drop-down list. Then enter the original temperature value into the input field on the left. The tool will instantly display the converted value at the top of the page.

This converter supports the following temperature scales:

Celsius (℃):

The Celsius scale, also known as Centigrade, is a temperature scale used in the metric system. It is based on the freezing point of water at 0 degrees Celsius and the boiling point of water at 100 degrees Celsius, under standard atmospheric pressure.

Conversion formula:

  • Celsius to Fahrenheit:  ℉ = 9 / 5 × ℃ + 32
  • Celsius to Kelvin:  K = ℃ + 273.15
  • Celsius to Rankine:  °R = 9 / 5 × (℃ + 273.15)

Fahrenheit (℉):

The Fahrenheit scale is commonly used in the United States for measuring temperature. It is based on a scale where 32 degrees Fahrenheit is the freezing point of water and 212 degrees Fahrenheit is the boiling point of water, under standard atmospheric pressure.

Conversion formula:

  • Fahrenheit to Celsius:  ℃ = 5 / 9 × (℉ - 32)
  • Fahrenheit to Kelvin:  K = 5 / 9 × (℉ − 32) + 273.15
  • Fahrenheit to Rankine:  °R + 459.67

Kelvin (K):

The Kelvin scale is an absolute temperature scale commonly used in scientific contexts. It starts from absolute zero, which is the theoretical lowest temperature possible. The Kelvin scale is related to the Celsius scale by a fixed offset of 273.15.

Conversion formula:

  • Kelvin to Celsius: ℃ = K − 273.15
  • Kelvin to Fahrenheit:  ℉ =  9 / 5 × (K − 273.15) + 32
  • Kelvin to Rankine:  °R = 9 / 5 ×  K

Rankine (°R):

The Rankine scale is an absolute temperature scale used in some engineering applications. It is similar to the Fahrenheit scale but starts from absolute zero. The size of one degree Rankine is the same as one degree Fahrenheit.

Conversion formula:

  • Rankine to Celsius:  ℃ =  5 / 9 × (°R − 491.67)
  • Rankine to Fahrenheit:  ℉ = °R − 459.67
  • Rankine to Kelvin:  K = 5 / 9 × °R
